Symphonic Band

Welcome to Symphonic Band 2008!

At the beginning of the year, my intent is to get us to work together as an ensemble, show you what I’m trying to accomplish as a director, explain my conducting gestures, and keep your musical interest.

Over the next few weeks we’re going to have auditions for seating.  This will help determine who is playing solos as well as other placement within instrumental sections.   All wind players will have to demonstrate skills on scales, sight-reading, and a prepared solo.

Reeds and oil and drumsticks and mallets:  The school does not provide them for you.  I have chosen to use that money to purchase additional instruments or more sheet music or fund instrument repairs.  Students need to provide their own reeds, oil, etc.  The question always comes up as to where to buy them.  My first recommendation is always to support the local stores in our community.  So, visit Mr. J’s Music on Townbank Road.

There are other places to purchase these items.  Below I’ve compiled a short list of reliable companies who provide most needs for instrumentalists.

Mr. J’s Music Store, North Cape May, NJ

Regional Music Service, Millville, NJ

Dillon Music, Woodbridge, NJ

I will be providing links to their web sites on my next update.

Any questions, just ask!
